What is Botox and how does it work?
What is Botox?:
Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin Type A, is a safe, FDA-approved injectable treatment that has been used for decades to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines. It is derived from a purified form of the botulinum toxin and is administered in small, targeted doses to temporarily relax facial muscles, resulting in a smoother, more youthful complexion.
– How Does Botox Work?:
Botox works by blocking the nerve signals responsible for muscle contractions, thereby preventing the repetitive movements that lead to the formation of wrinkles. By relaxing specific facial muscles, Botox effectively softens the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and other facial wrinkles, providing a more refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
Section 3: The Botox Procedure
– Consultation:
During the consultation, your practitioner will assess your individual needs, discuss your desired outcomes, and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your unique facial anatomy.
– Treatment Process:
The Botox procedure is quick & virtually painless. Your practitioner will administer a series of tiny injections into targeted areas using a fine needle. The entire process can be completed in a matter of minutes, depending on the number of treatment areas.
– Results and Recovery:
Following the Botox treatment, you can expect to see initial results within a few days, with the full effects becoming evident after approximately two weeks. Botox is known for its minimal downtime, allowing you to resume your regular activities immediately after the procedure. However, we advise you to avoid strenuous exercise and excessive sun exposure for a short period.

Benefits of Botox
– Non-Surgical Solution:
Botox offers a non-invasive alternative to surgical procedures, making it an ideal choice for individuals seeking to enhance their appearance without the risks and downtime associated with surgery. With Botox, you can achieve noticeable results and resume your daily activities almost immediately.
– Natural-Looking Results:
One of the key advantages of Botox is its ability to deliver natural-looking results. Skilled practitioners can administer Botox injections with precision, ensuring that your facial expressions remain intact while reducing the visibility of wrinkles and lines. The outcome is a more youthful, yet still authentic, appearance.
– Versatility:
Botox is not limited to treating wrinkles alone. It can also be used to address other concerns, such as reducing the appearance of a gummy smile, lifting the eyebrows, and diminishing the prominence of neck bands. This versatility makes Botox a versatile treatment option for various aesthetic concerns.

The Art of Botox
We believe that with us Botox is an art form and a fantastic preventative treatment for ageing.
An expert injectors I will combine both science and art – a knowledge of both the anatomy of the face, and an understanding of how the facial muscles work coupled with the ability to tailor each treatment to best suit the individual.
The key to having good Botox is to not look like you’ve had Botox – to simply appear fresher, brighter and more youthful.
In addition we can also use Botox to enhance other facial features.
Common questions about Botox
When should I start having Botox?
When you smile or frown, the lines develop during the expression but generally go away when the face relaxes.
When the lines begin to stay around when your face is at rest that’s when you should start having Botox.
Botox can be started in mid – late 20s or early 30s as a preventative measure to avoid fine lines and ingrained wrinkles forming and also works well to soften existing wrinkles on people aged around 30 to 65.
Which areas of my face can be treated?
The most common dynamic wrinkles treated with Botox are the lines on the upper face – the frown lines, horizontal lines on the forehead and the crow’s feet around the eyes.
It is a myth that Botox can only be used to treat the upper face.
A knowledgeable and experienced practitioner will be able to treat the lower face too and can achieve amazing results.
It is possible to treat hooded eyes with a Botox brow lift, nose wrinkles & droops, fix downturned or gummy smiles, slim the face by treating the jaw and even enhance and define lip shape.
What is the difference between Botox and fillers?
Botox contains a purified bacteria that freezes muscles to minimise the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions.
Fillers tend to be hyaluronic acids and poly-L-lactic acids. These add fullness / volume or structure to the areas of the face.
What is baby botox ?
This is simply another name for very natural Botox involving smaller amounts. I often use this on younger clients or those who are actors or models and need a full range of expression.

Can I drink alcohol before my treatment?
Drinking alcohol is not recommended before a treatment as it can thin the blood leading to a higher risk of bruising and swelling.
How can I prepare for my treatment ?
- Taking arnica supplements before your treatment can help minimise risk of bruising
- Staying hydrated can help minimise risk of bruising and swelling.
- Let your practitioner know prior to the treatment if you are on any blood thinning medications.
Treatment aftercare instructions
After treatments we recommend
- maintain a normal heart rate,
- avoid touching, rubbing, or physical pressure on the affected area
- leave the treated area alone
Wait 12 hours to exercise
If exercise is part of your daily routine, wait at least 24 hours to work out.
It increases the risk of bruising. Sweating is also more likely to increase chances of infection.
Go makeup-free
If you received a injection in your face, take a break from makeup for 12 hours. Applying makeup will rub the skin, potentially dispersing the toxin to somewhere it wasn’t injected
Sit up
Sit up for the first 4 hours after getting Botox. Bending or lying down might spread the toxin and promote bruising.
Avoid other skin treatments
The area will need some time for injection holes to seal up and heal, so its best to give it a week before going for any other treatments that could potentially irritate the injection site.
- facial massages
- exfoliating scrubs
- dermal filler
Getting these treatments too soon may cause irritation or infection.
