What are the side effects and risks of Botox?

Okay, let’s start with some side effects you could encounter. Most of these can be treated effectively with paracetamol and topical treatments, or by simply waiting for them to pass – so there’s not much to worry about! But, sometimes treatments results in:

  • Some swelling and redness in the treated areas
  • Slight bruising and tenderness around the points of injection

After these treatments we recommend

  • maintain a normal heart rate,
  • avoid touching, rubbing, or physical pressure on the affected area
  • leave the treated area alone
  • no makeup for 24 hours

as these can cause sweat and clog the injection points increase the risk of bruising and infection.

Wait 24 hours to exercise

If exercise is part of your daily routine, wait at least 24 hours to work out.

Physical activity increases blood flow. It increases the risk of bruising. Sweating is also more likely to increase chances of infection.

Go makeup-free

If you received a injection in your face, take a break from makeup for 24 hours. Applying makeup will rub the skin, potentially dispersing the toxin to somewhere it wasn’t injected

can I drink alcohol before my treatment?

Drinking alcohol is not recommended before a treatment as it can thin the blood leading to a higher risk of bruising and swelling.

How can I prepare for my treatment ?

  • Taking arnica supplements before your treatment can help minimise risk of bruising
  • Staying hydrated can help minimise risk of bruising and swelling.
  • Let your practitioner know prior to the treatment if you are on any blood thinning medications.
